He was spotted among the troops by his former owner, Bellingham. While conditions were bad in the camp, Curzon preferred them to what happened to him next. They had little to eat but firecake, made of flour and water, and their clothes and blankets were falling apart. However, when he and the other soldiers arrived at the camp they discovered they would have to build their own shelter. Curzon looked forward to good rations and sturdy shelter. Shortly after Curzon enlisted, his company began marching toward Valley Forge, the place where they were to set up camp for the winter.
